Stores hours are generally Monday to Friday 9am - 6pm (some close during midday) and Saturdays from 9am - 1pm. Extended hours shopping, 7am - 11pm, for some supplies, including groceries, can be found at shops in the Westbahnhof and Südbahnhof stations.
VAT (Value-Added Tax) typically makes up 20% of the purchase price marked on items. Tourists not residing within the EU are eligible for a refund of VAT on purchases amounting EUR 75 or more. Ask in the shop for a TAX FREE refund form. The refund occurs at the border when travelers leave the EU. IMPORTANT: Do not check these items with your luggage before you process the paperwork with the Customs agent! You may have to show the articles.
Try using Google Translate to enter an English word and get the German equivalent to type into the "Wer/Was" field at Herold.at (the "Yellow Pages"). To narrow results to Vienna, type "Wien" in the "Wo" field. To narrow by district, type the four digit "zip code" into the "Wo" field (for zip code, type "1" before the district and "0" after the district; example, 6th district is 1060).
